Our Thursday Adaptive Tennis Group continues to grow! Players of all ages and abilities are welcome to join every Thursday from 5:00–6:30 PM for a fun, supportive, and engaging tennis session.

Whether you’re new to wheelchair tennis or have some experience, come try drills, games, and matches while making new friends and building skills. Everyone is welcome to join in and be part of our adaptive tennis community.

T3 Athletes Shine at the Indian Wells Wheelchair Championships

T3 Adaptive players bring home top honors and powerful performances at one of the year’s premier wheelchair tennis tournaments.

The 2025 Indian Wells Wheelchair Championships , held October 16–19 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, brought together talented adaptive athletes from across the region for an inspiring weekend of competition. T3 Adaptive Racquet Sports players delivered outstanding performances, demonstrating skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the tournament.

Sherif El Sharabasy took home 1st Place in the C Division Singles , with fellow competitor Fernando G. from Chula Vista finishing close behind in 2nd. Sherif also teamed up with Micah V. to claim 1st Place in the B Doubles Division , marking another strong result for the T3 team.

Additional highlights included strong singles showings from John H. and Zack S. , who competed in the Junior B division and the C division, respectively. The weekend was filled with memorable rallies, close matches, and great camaraderie among athletes, volunteers, and fans.

Coach Keith Puryear shared that the players not only competed at a high level but also represented T3’s mission beautifully—showing how adaptive sports empower athletes of all abilities to excel.

Congratulations to all T3 players for their achievements and for continuing to grow the visibility of adaptive tennis.

From Tijuana to the global stage: former T3Tennis athlete continues to break barriers in adaptive sports

We’re thrilled to celebrate Ian Tellez , a proud T3Tennis alumnus from Tijuana, Mexico , for his outstanding achievements at the 2025 Mexican National Paralympics . Ian captured three gold medals in track events , demonstrating the same determination, athleticism, and heart that defined his time with T3Tennis.

Ian’s journey continues to inspire. Beyond his Paralympic success, he currently attends Southwest Minnesota University on a basketball scholarship , where he balances academics, athletics, and leadership. His dedication to adaptive sports and commitment to excellence have now earned him a spot on the 2026 Mexican National Pan-American Basketball Team, a remarkable accomplishment that reflects his talent and perseverance.

At T3 Adaptive Racquet Sports, we’re honored to have been part of Ian’s early athletic journey and proud to see him continuing to thrive across multiple sports. His success is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when opportunity, effort, and passion meet.

Highlights from Marbella on a Mission: Adaptive Tennis in Action

T3 Adaptive Racquet Sports athletes brought great energy to last weekend's Marbella on a Mission event.

On Friday, October 10th, T3 Adaptive Racquet Sports brought the spirit of inclusion and athleticism to Marbella on a Mission , a three-day charity tennis event held at Marbella Country Club in San Juan Capistrano . The event raised funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society and Memorial Care , uniting the community around a shared goal: to raise a racket for a cure.

T3Tennis filled Court #6 with eight talented wheelchair athletes who were introduced alongside more than 60 other participants, receiving a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the crowd. Our athletes delivered a fun, fast-paced demonstration that had the audience cheering from the sidelines.

The group showcased a variety of drills and games, including serving mobility exercises, a Tic-Tac-Toe serving challenge, fast serve contests, target drills, and four-ball movement exercises, e ven finishing with a lively game of football for extra fun and fitness. With a live microphone on court, the T3ARS team introduced each athlete and explained the purpose behind every activity, turning the evening into both an inspiring and educational experience.

Volunteers and spectators alike joined in the excitement, with a few kids from the audience even hopping into sports chairs to try hitting balls themselves. What an unforgettable moment that highlighted what adaptive tennis is all about: access, inclusion, and joy through movement.

2025 NorCal vs SoCal Wheelchair Challenge

T3Tennis players shine as the South team dominates at Fresno University

We’re excited to share highlights from the 2025 USTA NorCal vs SoCal Wheelchair Team Challenge, a key event in Southern California’s adaptive tennis calendar. This challenge plays an important role in elevating regional competition and showcasing top wheelchair tennis talent.

This year, the South team, with strong contributions from T3Tennis athletes Sherif El Sharabasy and Micah V. , delivered a commanding 22–2 victory over the North. Sherif proudly held the southern team’s trophy, celebrating a performance that reflects both athletic excellence and dedication.

Sherif and Micah were integral to the South’s success, bringing intensity, strategy, and resilience to the matches. Their leadership heightened the competitive spirit of the Challenge.

T3 Adaptive Racquet Sports Joins Marbella on a Mission

T3 Adaptive Racquet Sports is proud to participate in Marbella on a Mission , a three-day charity tennis event uniting the community to celebrate, honor, and remember those impacted by cancer. The event raises funds to support both the American Cancer Society and MemorialCare , helping advance cancer research, treatment, and patient care.

Join us on Friday, October 10, 2025 , for “Liveball for Local Impact” at Marbella Country Club in San Juan Capistrano. From 5:30–7:00 p.m. , our T3 wheelchair tennis athletes will take center court for a fast-paced, high-energy live ball exhibition designed to inspire and raise awareness for a meaningful cause.

This event represents the heart of what T3ARS stands for: community, inclusion, and purpose through sport. We’re honored to help bring visibility to adaptive athletes while contributing to the fight against cancer.

Strengthening the Future of Youth Wheelchair Tennis with SCTA Foundation Support

T3 Tennis Transforms Youth Wheelchair Tennis in Southern California

We are proud to share that the Southern California Tennis Association Foundation recently featured T3 Tennis on Wheels in their article, “T3 Tennis Transforms Grassroots Wheelchair Training.” You can read the full story here: SCTA Foundation article .

Thanks to a grant from the SCTA Foundation, we are able to continue building one of the only year-round wheelchair tennis programs for youth in South Orange County . Our mission has always been to provide free, consistent instruction for athletes ages 6–18, as well as opportunities for adults to play and grow through tennis.

This support allows us to:

Offer regular, structured training so our athletes can develop skills and confidence over time.
Create competitive pathways , with several of our juniors already participating in USTA wheelchair tennis camps and earning national rankings.
Build community for athletes and families who often lack access to adaptive sports.
Inspire the next generation of players, following in the footsteps of Paralympians and world-class wheelchair tennis athletes.

We are especially proud of the young players who are dreaming big — athletes like 12-year-old Micah Velte, who is working hard with her sights set on future Paralympic competition. Stories like hers remind us why this program matters.

As co-founder Keith Orahood shared with the SCTA Foundation, our goal is for athletes to “forget about their circumstances and enjoy life through sport.” This grant brings us closer to making that vision a reality for more youth and families across our community.

T3Tennis Hosts First Annual Up/Down Tournament at Marguerite Tennis Pavilion

Celebrating community, competition, and fun for wheelchair and able-bodied tennis players alike.

On July 12 , T3 Tennis hosted our 1st Annual Up/Down Tournament at the Marguerite Tennis Pavilion, and what a day it was! We were thrilled to see 50 participants come together, including 9 wheelchair athletes, 24 family members, 12 able-bodied volunteer partners, 2 coaches, 3 friends/fans, and even 2 dogs —to celebrate tennis, community, and friendly competition.

Fun, Games, and Warmups

Before the round-robin matches began, wheelchair participants and able-bodied volunteers took part in fun warmup games and contests, including the spider drill, rolling target drills, fast serve contest, and Tic-Tac-Tie, where teams ran or rolled to complete challenges. Able-bodied participants even served from folding chairs, making for some hilarious and memorable moments.

Tournament Results

Junior Division: Miles and Mason took first place, while Archie Davis and teammate Leisha came in a very close second, trailing by only one game. Special congratulations to Archie and Mateo for competing in their very first tennis tournament!
Adult Division: Micah and teammate “Q” claimed the win with a two-game edge over John and his partner Finn, who volunteered all the way from Manhattan Beach.

We were thrilled to welcome players and families from near and far, including the Tellez family from Tijuana and Annalyn, who took time out from track and acting to join us. Everyone contributed to a day full of energy, laughter, and great tennis.

Community Spirit

Thanks to the Loretto family, we enjoyed grapes and watermelon, and the rest of the pizza, donuts, and OJ were a huge hit. Matthew, John’s brother, joined the fun and won the spider drill for the stand-up group. And a very happy birthday shoutout to Brian Robbins, our site director, who celebrated by getting in on the action too!

These awards showcase the skill, dedication, and leadership that define adaptive tennis at the collegiate level, and they inspire players across all levels.

Tyler McKay

University of Alabama

In his second season as head coach, McKay led Alabama to a dominant championship win, securing the program’s ninth national title. His leadership and player development—including guiding freshman Francesco Felici to a singles title—cemented his recognition

Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership & Sportsmanship Award

J Betts

University of Michigan

Betts stood out for her leadership, academic excellence, and community impact. A multi-sport athlete turned collegiate wheelchair tennis standout, she combines athletic dedication with advocacy for inclusivity and disability rights.

Rookie of the Year

Francesco Felici

University of Alabama

Former US Open Junior Champion Felici went undefeated in his freshman season, winning the national singles title and playing a key role in Alabama’s perfect season and championship win.

Player of the Year

Caiden Baxter

University of Michigan

Baxter, who began his journey with no tennis experience, rose to become the top-ranked A player in the U.S. His consistent performance throughout the season included multiple USTA titles and a runner-up finish at nationals.

2nd Annual T3Tennis USTA Sanctioned Tournament

Nationally ranked Micah Velte and multi-sport athlete Ian Tellez shine at Saddleback College

We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible performances at the 2nd Annual T3 Tennis Wheelchair Tournament , held March 22–23 at Saddleback College .

Micah Velte, USTA nationally ranked #6, swept both the singles and doubles divisions , demonstrating remarkable skill, determination, and sportsmanship. Micah, a two-sport athlete, will soon head to the National Wheelchair Basketball Championships in early April.

Ian Tellez traveled from Tijuana, Mexico to compete again this year, earning 1st place in the A doubles alongside Micah. Ian, a senior at Victory Christian Academy in Chula Vista, is a multi-sport athlete excelling in basketball, track, and tennis. He has accepted a college basketball scholarship to the University of Southern Minnesota . Ian is also a top contender on the international stage—he is the fastest junior in Mexico in the 200 and 400 meters and is a strong candidate for the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima and the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles . Truly, we can say, “we knew him when.”

The tournament showcased not only competitive tennis but also the resilience, talent, and determination of adaptive athletes. Events like this highlight the power of wheelchair tennis to develop skill, build confidence, and create a vibrant community for players of all ages.

Highlights from the 2nd Annual T3Tennis USTA Sanctioned Tournament

Seven T3 athletes, two champions, and a weekend of competition and camaraderie

Recently, T3Tennis proudly hosted our 2nd Annual USTA Sanctioned Tournament . on March 22–23, 2025. With seven T3 athletes competing — including Ian, who traveled from Tijuana — the weekend was packed with outstanding play, sportsmanship, and community spirit.

Tournament Highlights:

A Singles : Micah defeated John in a hard-fought final to win the championship.
A Doubles : Ian and Micah claimed 1st place , while John and Miles secured 2nd place .
B Doubles : Zach and Liam battled through the draw to take 1st place .

Beyond the results, this event was a true community effort. Families, volunteers, and supporters came together to feed everyone and make the weekend run smoothly. The teamwork off the court matched the determination on it, and we could not be prouder of our T3Tennis athletes and supporters.

Celebrating John Henry and Sherif El Sharabasy’s impressive performances in Tucson, AZ

We are proud to celebrate the accomplishments of T3 Tennis players John Henry and Sherif El Sharabasy at the 2025 Arizona Open Wheelchair Tennis Tournament held in February at the beautiful Refkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Arizona.

Impressive Performances

Sherif El Sharabasy competed in both the adult C singles and doubles divisions, marking his first-ever USTA tournament after only four months of playing tennis. Sherif’s athleticism extends beyond tennis—he’s a top scorer on his ice hockey team and a wide receiver on his flag football team.
John Henry entered both the juniors and adult divisions, playing 7 matches and 13 sets over three days—a true demonstration of endurance, skill, and focus.

Both athletes earned 2nd place finishes , showcasing their dedication, talent, and the hard work they’ve put in through T3 Tennis programs.

We are incredibly proud of John and Sherif, and we look forward to seeing them continue to grow and compete in future tournaments. Their achievements are a testament to the power of adaptive sports to inspire and challenge athletes at every level.

T3Tennis Athletes Finalists at 2025 Arizona Open

John and Sherif Reach the Finals at the 2025 Arizona Open

Recently, T3Tennis athletes John and Sherif represented our program at the Arizona Open Wheelchair Tennis Tournament in Tucson, from February 21–23, 2025. Competing in the C Division Doubles, the pair advanced all the way to the finals.

Instead of the traditional trophies, this tournament awarded prize money to finalists, making John and Sherif true “pros” in their own right. Their hard work, teamwork, and competitive spirit shone throughout the weekend, and we couldn’t be prouder of their performance.

Events like the Arizona Open are a reminder of why we do what we do. They provide a platform for adaptive athletes to showcase their skill, dedication, and sportsmanship while also building lifelong friendships both on and off the court.

T3Tennis Athletes Shine at the 2024 USTA Jr. National Championships

Our T3 family celebrates a weekend of competition and community in McDonough, Georgia

Some of out T3Tennis athletes recently traveled to McDonough, Georgia, to compete in the USTA Jr. National Championships. The event, held November 14–17, brought together some of the best adaptive junior players in the country for a weekend of competition, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories.

One of the highlights came from John , who earned the coveted Silver Ball trophy for finishing 2nd place in the B Division Doubles with his partner. This achievement marks an exciting milestone in his journey and reflects the hard work and dedication he’s shown on and off the court. T3 Coach Henry Reyes also had a strong showing, taking 3rd place in the Open Division . He’s pictured alongside his opponent and tournament director, Harlan Matthews.

Beyond the competition, Nationals are a chance for athletes to build friendships and reconnect with peers they see throughout the year. From sharing meals to cheering each other on, the bonds created at these events are as meaningful as the matches themselves.

And of course, no trip to Georgia would be complete without some good southern cooking. Our crew made sure to stop by a local barbecue spot that turned out to be a hidden gem.

We’re proud of John, Coach Henry, and the entire T3 team for representing our community so well on the national stage. Their achievements remind us that T3 is about more than just tennis, it’s about teamwork, perseverance, and family.

Sherif El Sharabasy Shines at JTCC Wheelchair Tournament in Maryland

A breakthrough performance at the ITF and USTA Level 2 event earns Sherif a national top-100 ranking.

Over Labor Day weekend, Sherif El Sharabasy represented T3Tennis at the prestigious ITF and USTA JTCC Wheelchair Tournament in College Park, Maryland (August 29–September 1, 2024).

Sherif battled hard in the Coed C Division , narrowly losing in the first round to the eventual champion, by just a single tiebreaker point. His determination carried him through to a 3rd place finish , and he also reached the semifinals in doubles , once again facing the same competitor.

This impressive showing paid off. Following the tournament, Sherif moved up to the B Division and is now ranked among the top 100 wheelchair tennis players nationally .

We are so proud of Sherif’s growth, especially considering that he has been competing in wheelchair tennis for less than a year. His performance at JTCC proves that dedication, resilience, and a love for the game can drive remarkable progress in a short time.

On August 24, 2024 , T3Tennis proudly hosted its first-ever USTA sanctioned wheelchair tournament at JSerra Catholic High School . This milestone event brought together six athletes, all from the T3 family , to compete in a day filled with great matches, community spirit, and first-time tournament experiences.

Ian Tellez , who traveled from Tijuana, Mexico, claimed the singles championship title . Ian is now attending Southwest Minnesota University on a basketball scholarship , and we were thrilled to celebrate his tennis success as well.
Maci and Zack both played in their first official USTA tournament . At just 10 years old, Maci showed incredible courage and determination. Her family has since relocated to North Carolina due to her father’s U.S. Marine Corps service, and we are grateful to have been part of her early tennis journey.

This tournament was made possible thanks to funding from a USTA grant , helping us create more opportunities for adaptive athletes to compete at the highest levels.

We are proud of all our athletes who competed and grateful to the USTA for supporting this milestone event. This is just the beginning, we look forward to building on the success of the 1st Annual JSerra USTA Sanctioned Wheelchair Tournament for years to come.

T3 Athletes Honor Legacy at Dee Henry Memorial Wheelchair Tournament

T3 juniors make up 70% of the division at Biola University, with rookie wins and first-time competitors shining on court.

On June 15, 2024 , T3Tennis athletes took to the courts at Biola University for the Dee Henry Memorial Wheelchair Tennis Tournament , one of Southern California’s most meaningful adaptive tennis events. This year’s tournament was especially significant, as it was the first held in honor of the late Coach Dee Henry , who dedicated more than 50 years to growing the sport and creating opportunities for athletes of all abilities.

We are proud to share that T3 players made up 70% of the junior division, a powerful reflection of both the growth of our program and the impact of Dee Henry’s vision.

Athlete Highlights:

Miles celebrated his first-ever tournament win , battling for nearly two hours in an 8-6 match against fellow T3 player Annalyn. A huge milestone for his rookie event.
Nellie and Liam each competed in their first USTA tournament , showing courage, determination, and excitement for future play.

The tournament was more than just match play. Friday included a Junior and Special Olympics Fun Day , while Saturday evening featured a courtside dinner with Dee Henry’s family , honoring her legacy and lifelong commitment to adaptive sports.

Events like this remind us why we do what we do. Watching our athletes on the court, whether earning their first win, competing for the very first time, or simply showing up with courage, is the heart of T3Tennis. We are proud to continue building on Coach Dee Henry’s legacy by helping athletes grow, compete, and thrive.

Landon’s path to wheelchair tennis began after a life-altering tragedy when he was eight years old. Despite facing severe physical and emotional challenges, he discovered adaptive tennis during high school through a supportive program at JSerra Catholic High School. His determination, athleticism, and refusal to give up have propelled him to compete nationally, earn a scholarship, and break barriers as one of the first wheelchair athletes in his county to compete against able-bodied opponents.

Stories like Landon’s remind us why programs like T3 Tennis exist: to provide access, support, and opportunity for athletes of all ages to discover their potential, develop their skills, and build confidence through wheelchair tennis. Each athlete’s journey is unique, but the lessons of resilience, dedication, and community are universal.

One of our athletes, Landon Sachs, was recently featured in the Los Angeles Times for his incredible journey in adaptive tennis. Despite facing unimaginable challenges, Landon has shown extraordinary strength, resilience, and passion for the sport.

Landon’s story begins with loss and hardship—he was shot and paralyzed at a young age. But instead of giving up, he channeled that adversity into something powerful and inspiring. At JSerra High School, Landon became the first prep athlete in Orange County to compete in a tennis match in a wheelchair against able-bodied players. He also placed second in the USTA Level 1 Junior National Wheelchair Championships in Rome, Georgia.

More than winning matches, Landon’s greatest achievement has been his courage to show up. Not long ago, he was quiet, unsure, and hiding behind his wheelchair. But supported by his coaches, family, and the launch of T3 Adaptive Racquet Sports, Landon’s voice has grown, his presence has strengthened, and he has become an inspiration to younger athletes and community members alike.

JSerra Tennis Coaches Hoping to Establish an Adaptive Sports ‘Mecca’

Creating an Inclusive Environment

When we started this program, our goal was simple: create a safe, supportive space where children with mobility impairments could play tennis, build confidence, and connect with others. Our after-school clinics provide free weekly instruction, and we’ve been thrilled to see young athletes grow both on and off the court.

Life-Changing Impact

It’s been inspiring to watch our players thrive. Athletes like Gianna, who uses a prosthetic leg, and Nellie, who faces mobility challenges, have found friendship, skill development, and a sense of belonging through tennis. Gianna’s words capture it best: “Growing up with a disability, it’s hard to connect with people around you that are also like you. So having these opportunities are, in a way, life-changing.”
